How It Began

In 2010, I was working for a Corporate Information Technology firm, traveling throughout the Western US. Then one day I received a call from a hospital that my 82 yr old father had fallen and broken his arm. Over the years prior to his fall, my father had battled various health issues. He had been in and out of the hospital many times, but he would always return home. This last fall was different, however, as the trauma of it all turned his occasional memory-loss into full-blown dementia. The doctors recommended that my father not return home without a care plan in place.

I asked myself, “A care plan? What does that mean?” With my father’s declining condition, it was obvious that my 80 yr old stepmother would be unable to fully take care of my father. I was suddenly thrown into chaos, emotionally stressed and overwhelmed, and it began taking a toll on my family and me.

“What do I do? Who do I talk to? How do I find a caregiver? What are the differences between assisted living and memory care?” Nobody guided me and I was thoroughly confused. My knowledge was very limited and it was frustrating me. Meanwhile, my “regular” life did not slow down and the stress was mounting. What I needed was someone in my corner to help me quickly make sense of it all. What I needed was an advocate.

Although my path was painful and overwhelming, the experience I gained from it, along with helping hundreds of families since then, has given me invaluable knowledge about elder care options and the healthcare industry. Now we share that knowledge with you. Senior Samaritans was created to guide you through the entire process at NO COST to you. We are committed to being with you every step of the way, providing you with personalized and compassionate service; to being your advocate during a most challenging time.
